Bayonetta is set to make waves as it was showcased in this year’s E3.
The story is about the lead character who aptly name Bayonetta, who is a witch going up against angels, which pretty much took away their chances of being advertised in the local church fair. It doesn’t lack in action, as gameplay is fast and bloody combined with a character that makes young boys get to puberty twice as fast.
Sex sells
She sports bookworm glasses and dish out damage with not two, but four pistols (don’t ask me how). Glasses and guns, what better combination? This pretty much gives you the Devil May Cry feel to the game and character and rightly so, as it is designed by none other than Hideki Kamiya of the DMC series, except that the lead is a female and oh, and I forgot to mention she also uses her hair for magical attacks and as her clothing too. Nice.
The market seems pointed directly at men, but expect the game to get a ‘Mature’ rating (sorry kids, but you’ll be ask someone to buy it for you anyway.) The trailer itself has a lot of suggestive sexual themes and violence so better get the kids to bed first before whipping this game out.
Angels and Demons
The ‘angels’ in the game look pretty creepy, in a non-angelic way. See the trailer below
Very. Bloody. And Very. Sexy.
The fight scenes are pretty gory in itself, with instruments of torture and guns blazing, that’s a given already. The fighting moves are very reminiscent to the DMC series, as well as the character’s side comments and slow-mo scenes.
The gameplay trailer below shows more fighting, as well as usage of weapons dropped by previous enemies, much like old style arcade games, which IMHO is a good thing. Watch it through to the end and you’d be treated to a nice fanservice shot of Bayonetta giving a suggestive look:
Bayonetta for president
In a lighter side of things, there have been reports saying bayonetta has been modeled with Alaskan governor Sarah Palin in mind.
Now, the question is, will it be a hit or not? We can safely say its a guaranteed success in the darker side of the internet, given the looks, the dress/hair and glasses, it might even have a pretty good doujin/h-manga of it’s own. But in the gaming world, will this be the next DMC? We’ve yet to see.
Release is due on Sept ’09

Bayonetta basically is DMC, there are very few differences. One of the reasons being is that the producer of DMC also worked with Platinum works on Bayonetta.
As for the Sarah Palin thing….no. The lip pout thing may look similar but, llets just not go there…okay?
